Yule 96
As the end of another year becomes a reality,
I like to close my eyes and visualize it as a whole. I sit
quietly. A timeless musical creation, the Pachelbel Canon in D, drifting
endlessly on the breeze thru the forest. Each year the tapestry
of life is filled with experiences that enlighten, sadden, teach,
amaze and awe us. Some that humble us and some that fill us
with joy. All are necessary for growth.
I don’t think that life is thrown together haphazardly,
it is woven together to form an intricate tapestry. One that shows
even the minutest detail in full rich color. Every strand starts
out alone, twining with other strands as it goes along. Each experience
forms a picture with each emotion coloring it in. Some strands
weave entire landscapes into the pattern by introducing many different,
seemingly insignificant, strands. At the time of the weaving these
are sometimes hard to see. But in retrospect each detail stands out,
thereby teaching you again and letting you see how your small piece joins
with the others to form an infinite work of art.
As the years have passed I have learned to look
for the tiniest strands, the strands that enter the loom of life for only
a fleeting moment, and to take joy from them. I have learned to give thanks
for the strands that form the background and for the strands that snarl
and knot. I now look at each new strand that enters and wonder
what I will learn from it…… and more importantly, what it will learn from
me.
