The two most notable phases of the moons
to trek across the sky are the New and Full Moon. Of course, there
are other parts of this cycle but these two points are when we use the
power of the moon spirit in our magical works. The New (or Dark)
Moon is a time for calling on the healing properties that are yours
by way of universal power. Each of us has the ability to tap into
a force of energy that comes from the cosmos itself. We channel it
through our own spirit and heart and turn that into a power source that
we then draw on to change our reality.

By the same fashion we can use the
more apparent power of the Full [or bright] Moon
to deal with things that are of a binding nature or of beginnings.
The Altar can be simple or quite ornate depending on what time you have
and by what you are intending to accomplish. Think of it as setting a mood,
for example; I may partake of a steak at my kitchen table with the over
head light on and some snappy music in the background and I will enjoy
the meal and the way it is presented to me. On the other hand
I can have that same meal served by candle light, with a good wine, and
guitars playing a selection of Spanish classics in the background and the
meal will take on a different feeling. The meal itself will be the
same but the intent will be different as will the outcome.

For my own purposes I will usually
use a blue
candle for healing rituals and they will
take place at the Full of the Moon. For an increase in money or attraction
to a new job I will employ a green candle and I will keep the spell working
from New Moon to New Moon. Sometimes I will plan my working around
which Moon it is, employing proper attire along
with color, etc. Especially with the
Blue Moons.

These are just a couple of examples
of what you can do, for more help there are any number of good
books on using the power of the moon to increase the power of your
spells.

Setting the time of the ritual
is your choice and this should be elastic in nature since we all have busy
lives. But try to keep a schedule that has some sort of continuity
to it if possible. Be creative and let yourself try new things.
Tradition is fine and I love it, but let yourself try new ways of
doing your work from time to time, just for fun.
