To Mabon
Mabon brings my favorite season of the year.  The trees are starting to change color and there is that unmistakable sense that there is a difference in the air. Not just the smell of burning leaves, but a certain crispness that wasn’t there just a few days before. There is a knowledge that the days of summer are behind us and that they were sweet while the warmth of the sun was with us to bring growth to our gardens.

At this time the sun enters the sign of Libra on or about the 23rd of September, the days and nights are of equal length. It's a time to give thanks for all that we have been given during our busy year, and it's a time to consider what lies ahead.

Suggestions for your Sabbat day
If you can, invite some friends to spend this day with you.  Make it a day of shared celebration by cooking things that can be done the day before, so that your day can be as carefree as possible.

Plan a project for everyone to participate in
Candle blessing
Herbal Vinegar
Making bath salts
Spell sticks
Start a quilt or some new pillows
Make a winter Tea
Have people share in supplying the materials for the project.

The colors of the season reflect the changing colors of the trees and other foliage around us. Rich gold, Deep red, Forest green, Rust, and Orange. Decorate the house with things that have this theme.  Cut out leaf patterns of construction paper and attach them to the windows and mirrors, in this way you share it with those who are inside as well as those who walk by.

Candles for your Altar could be in brown for the earth, green for the trees, white for the clouds, and yellow for the sun.  Choose an Altar that reflects your feeling about this time of the year.  Make sure that the simple feast is of things that are fresh and laid out at the Altar just before the service.

Traditional Foods for Mabon
Many people choose a big stew for this day, you might also consider making  chicken noodle soup for the shared table.  Game meat, as well as large fowl is also appropriate. Potato dishes, squash and lentils are another good choice for the meal.

Planning your day
Starting the day with a cleansing salt bath is nice, scent it with lavender or musk and spend a little extra time enjoying the warmth of the water and the scent that it brings too you.

Have everyone bring what they need for the project you have chosen and make sure that there is room to do it in.  It is always a good idea to have a little extra of whatever supplies are called for just in case someone is a no-show, or if they just forget to bring along their part of the materials. Make sure that you have left yourself lots of time to enjoy this wonderful time together.

Set a festive table and share your meal.  After the meal is tidied up make plans for the circle of the evening. After you have shared the circle, have a nice desert that is made of both hot and cold items such as a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream.  This marks the difference in the change of the season from warm summer to cold winter.
