The
Planet Jupiter
Scientific Facts:
Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun and the
largest in the solar system with a mean diameter of 88,000 miles.
Jupiter revolves around the sun with a sidereal period of 11.862 earth-years
and rotates with a period of 9 hours 55 minutes. Its equator is hardly
inclined to the plane of its orbit so that there is very litte seasonal
variation. The atmosphere is thought to consist of compressed or
condensed gases, e.g. hydrogen, methane an ammonia. Jupiter has at
least 16 satellites. It was just discovered in September of 1998 that Jupiter
has rings! There are 2 rings that consist of debris made from the 4 small
moons when they are hit by different objects in space and 2 rings that
are made up of fine dust. These last two rings are referred to as "gossamer"
rings and one ring actually resides within the other.
On an interesting note, it is now (Sept. 1998)
thought that there is water under the surface of Europa, one of Jupiters
satellites. At this time there is a probe out exploring Jupiter and
more and more things are being found out every day. For more information
on Jupiter you can go to NASA on line.
Rules:
The tongue, gullibility, assimilation,
expansion, wealth, optimism, fortune, largesse,
generosity, narcissism, greediness, gluttony, exhibitionism.
Quality:
Jupiter is the gas giant of the solar system.
It represents the good in every sense and its fundamental nature is expansion,
but this bubble can burst. It is essentially wholesome and inclines
towards the status quo, the establishment, the law and whatever is held
to be “the best” in any society. It is orthodoxy, thence ruling caste,
class and privilege, When Jupiter develops properly as a person,
then it represents the faculties of happiness, assimilation and good humor.
While Jupiter is “God”, Saturn is the “Devil”.
Childhood Development:
In child development, Jupiter rules the stage
when the world (the Mother) seems to regard the child in high esteem.
The child takes the center of the stage, everything seems to exist for
its comfort and well-being.
In People:
When Jupiter is strong in the birth chart of a
person, he or she may need the acclaim of others. Expansive and exhibitionist,
the person may seem vain, self-absorbed, leeching off others. Periods
of high elation are inevitably punctured and depression may ensue.
Such individuals may be either compulsive eaters or anorexics.
